Between the verdant expanse of the lush Amazon Rainforest and the arid coastal desert clutching the Andes, Peru offers such an extreme range of encounters and experiences that choosing between them can be hard. From fervent pilgrimages to honor both indigenous and Christian gods to discos and nightclubs bursting with young people and prehistoric secrets waiting to be discovered in ancient ruins, Peru holidays provide something for everyone and family holidays are a treat for everyone.

If cultural holidays are up your alley, Peru is one country where customs and traditions run deep and have done so for over 5,000 years. Even with its long history, Peru is continuously re-energized by new influences. In how many countries can you groove to tribal African beats, marvel at imposing Catholic churches and cathedrals and admire original textiles and artworks that have been inspired by indigenous traditions?

Probably the best known site in the country is Machu Picchu, a breathtaking historic city constructed by the Inca tribe, an ancient civilization, considered by many to be as advanced as the Egyptians. This urban creation is best reached by trekking the Inca Trail.

Peru is suitable for family holidays and whether you are 50 or 15 years old, you are likely to be thrilled by the adventure of river rafting, mountain biking or horse riding in the Peruvian landscape. Mountain trekking, a visit to the floating islands, white water rafting and riding dune buggies through the desert are some of the better options available to adventure seekers on activity holidays.

Lima, the capital city, is certainly no beauty but do not rush past it on your way to the more alluring Andes. What it lacks in aesthetic appeal it makes up for with museums, nightclubs, festivals, art galleries, enormous shopping malls, encyclopedic bookstalls, Baroque churches and exceptional eateries. It is a popular destination for international music acts, theater and dance troupes – this is one city that should certainly not be missed on cultural holidays.

Snow topped mountains, enormous sand dunes, brightly colored exotic birds and picture perfect volcanoes combine to form one of the most exciting holiday destinations in the world – not to mention the interesting culinary experience, from guinea pigs to rare species of succulent mollusks! Peru is a tasty holiday destination indeed.

Whether you are a fan of family holidays, activity holidays or cultural holidays, you are in for a treat as Peru holidays are an exciting mixture of all three.
